"It's time to begin, isn't it?" Well, IMAGINE DRAGONS welcomes you to the new age, kicking off a new era with their upcoming sixth LP "Loom". Known for their roster of blockbuster hits - "Radioactive", "It's Time", "Demons", "Believer", and many more, the band teases that the upcoming record is their "best body of work" yet. Scheduled to hit the shelves this June, they offer a preview of what to expect with its lead single "Eyes Closed". In support of the album, Imagine Dragons is kicking off the "LOOM WORLD TOUR" this summer.
Turning the heat up, the band led by vocalist Dan Reynolds shares that the record is a pinnacle of their "artistic journey of self-discovery". Inspired by reflections and experiences they had after taking a break from touring following the "Mercury" era, they got back to the studio with loads of stories to tell from a time of catching up with friends and loved ones. "Working on this record was a rollercoaster... Some days the songs came from a place of sadness and heartache and others joy and jubilance. Loneliness. Searching. Wanting. Anger. Love," Reynolds shared on Instagram.
The album cover depicts two people on each side, separated by a visual of the sun. "You can’t really tell if it’s a sunset or a sunrise, and then there are two people kind of separated standing in front of it. That really kind of sums it up thematically when I listen to it," Reynolds told The Associated Press.
"Loom" comes two years after the "Mercury" double album dominated the scene. The LP's lead single "Eyes Closed" signals change with striking and heart-pounding lyrics. "I’m back from the dead, from the back of my head/Been gone and facin’ horrors that should never be said."
This album surely allowed the band to explore within, and reconnect with who they are. As people and as artists, Imagine Dragons produced the record wholeheartedly, and they're excited for fans to witness their new era that signals a double meaning, weaving emotions in every way. "A lot of the record is kind trying to come to terms with just accepting. Things are looming and incoming, for better or for worse, and there's just really nothing you could do other than accept it," he shared.
Taking the album for a live spin, the band says fans can expect their all-time favorite hits to be played as well. As "Loom" takes centerstage, Reynolds expressed that touring is something Imagine Dragons takes into heart, treating it as a therapeutic effort for their fans, a chance to be together in a room of people that share the same feelings.
"It’s just a lot of people in a room together realizing they’re not alone in their feelings," Reynolds said, via AP News. "I don’t necessarily need them to feel happy or sad or anything. I just want them to look around them and see that other people are also feeling something."
