With the lyric video for "My Mind Is for Sale,” Jack Johnson digs a little deeper than we might expect from the laid-back singer-songwriter. The video is shot using an i-Phone via stop motion – the singer-songwriter drops blocks, each decorated with the song’s lyrics, building walls and after each phrase, kicking them down. With sharp lyrics reflecting on the current state of politics in the US, Johnson delivers an weighty message, sung in his usual gentle tones over smooth and relaxing instrumentation. Then again, maybe this shouldn’t be surprising – a former surfer and avid environmentalist, Jack Johnson has aways been a campaigner for environmentalism and aimed to raise awareness of climate change, in particular our role within it with regards to the ocean. He and his wife Kim created the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation and the Kōkua Hawaii Foundation, and fans are encourages to get involved with their efforts to help preserve our planet.
