Sam Hunt was seriously pursuing a career as a footballer before settling on the life of a musician (and aren't we all very grateful that he did)! Music began as a hobby, teaching himself guitar after practice every day. He looks back on the time almost with bemusement; "I never saw myself as a musician or having any musical talent… I was just killing time that summer, and a buddy had recently bought a guitar. I picked it up one day and on a whim thought, 'You know, I think I want to buy a guitar.'" After an unsuccessful attempt to impress the Kansas City Chiefs, he left for Nashville to pursue a music career, much to the shock of his friends and family.
Since then, Sam Hunt has gained widespread respect and recognition, having been praised for his use of pop and R&B elements in his music. Always adding just the right amount to make it different enough to be interesting, he confidently walks the line between veering too for off-centre and staying true to the heart and soul of the genre, and has gained a huge following because of it. He has charted continuously on Country Airplay and Hot Country since his debut, and has received and been nominated for multiple awards, including an American Music Award, a CMT Music Award, and nominations for GRAMMY and Billboard Music awards.
